“Listen! Can you hear the trumpet’s call? That’s me, Merry—Angel of Celebration, playing my horn, calling one and all to attend the World Gala — a celebration of life! Now is the time to leave your cares behind and think about possibilities the future may hold. There will be feasting, dancing and merriment for all!” – Merry

Merry re-read the caption on the invitation for the hundredth time, but couldn’t muster the enthusiasm for tonight’s party. She had been giving sparkle and life to celebrations all over the world for centuries, and yet could not shake the feeling that something was wrong.

The party was set to take place in a fine old house—not a mansion, but a family home that would exclude no one. The front door featured a beautiful handmade wreath, the hall festooned with pictures of the family (and their many pets!). The dining table wore a red tablecloth and was laden with every snack you can think of from pizza to potato chips, Angel food cake to candy apples. The dance floor wasn’t huge, but was polished to a mirror sheen, and lightly sprinkled with glitter—with a mirror ball overhead. The ceiling was a mass of colourful balloons and a confetti bomb would go off at midnight. The well known angel DJ Winged Victory was set to play (a friend of Merry’s with a special talent for coaxing people onto the dance floor). He would start with the classics that everyone knows, then segue into an acoustic vibe to give people a chance to chat (and eat). Finally, later in the evening he would pump up the energy level with some bass-heavy electronic dance music.

Invitations to addresses all over the world were hand-delivered (having wings does have its advantages).
The guest list was inspired by an old nursery rhyme and included people from all walks of life. Sharp-eyed party goers might spot the following:

Tinker, Tailor,
Soldier, Sailor,
Rich Man, Poor Man,
Beggar Man, Thief.

Soon after, the RSVPs came flooding in. Most were eager to circle the date on their calendars and get their party dresses out. Of course, as always, some had prior engagements, and one or two were ill, but the rest were eager to attend. Except for YOU. Merry was crushed when she realised you weren’t coming. If you’re not a fan of big parties I understand. It can be hard to walk into a room of strangers, but you never know who you’ll meet. What you’ll overhear. And you may even bump into an old friend. Yes, it’s not easy putting yourself out there, but that’s what life is all about. Meeting new people, making new friends, and you might even have a good time!

ilobuild.com  Far to the north lays a land where herds of reindeer track a boundless layer of deep snow. On the outskirts of a small village in this frozen land lived two brothers, Ingvarr and Ikka, true masters of the art of woodcraft. Ingvarr, the elder, was content to carve intricate little birds for the village children, or to turn birch bowls on his ancient lathe, while Ikka was inspired to push the boundaries of what was possible with a simple plank of wood. Working in their shared workshop one day, Ikka observed his brother carving yet another little bird, and wondered if there might be a better way to make many birds quickly, so children everywhere could have them! And so Ikka began experimenting, first with simple hand tools, but after a time realising that he would need to build a kind of machine that could do the work of many tools at once. After years of success and failure, a crude prototype was built, only capable of simple operations, but the principle was sound.

Within minutes of switching on his machine, Ikka was holding a small wooden bird in his hand. With Ingvarr smiling beside him, his heart filled with joy, or as they say in their land, ilo.
